Tanner of Mesa, Arizona states "From Aunt Eliza (Lyde) Linton This is copied from a memorandum Lyde made. She says Grandpa (father) says a family of James Lintons went to California about 1848. He had two sons & two daughter and one brother who died. Father says Bro. McPherson of Nephi says the Lintons originated in Scotland. A man there had a large estate and 4 sons. They named each estate different names and the descendants finally took the name of their estate one of which was named Linton. "Grandpa had 4 cousins on his mothers side Robert - William Nancy and Mary Selfridge his mothers sister named Rebecca Selfridge md. James Nilson They had 2 sons Robert & William Nelson. Sis Margaret Sefridge died young, thinks these were all b. in Ireland. Our Gr father William Linton had 3 brothers settle in N. B. John James & Samuel. All had large families. John 5 sons/dau Samuel 5 or 6 girls 2 sons, James 6 girls & 2 boys Father thot he had heard his father say the family changed their name from Graham to Linton at the time of the revolution when the Catholics were after the protestants, they being Presbyterians Linton American Ancestry IV - 150 Linton Genealogy 1881 15 pages Linton Pond and Kister Genealogy 395 - 482 - 588 (Salt Lake City Write Viva about this family)"

Father thought he had heard his father say the family changed their name from Graham to Linton at the time of the Revolution when the Catholics were after the Protestants, they being Presbyterians.
