There is a Washington County deed dated 12 July 1794 recorded in the Carter County court house in 1796 for 200 acres given to William Jackson, Washington County (now Carter County), North Carolina. Book A, pgs 15, 16. Then in 1801 William deeded 100 of these acres to Leonard Shown. This second deed is Witnessed by JOSEPH TOMPKINS and WILLIAM JINKINS. This second deed is significant in light of the comments made in the 1887 Jackson Ledger (pg 12) about Joseph Jackson's son, William, and Joseph's daughter, Elizabeth Jackson TOMPKINS, migrating South together. Here in this deed we have William Jackson, Joseph Tompkins and Wm. Jinkins/Jenkins all together. Joseph Tompkins may have been William's nephew and William Jinkins' son-in-law.

WILL OF WILLIAM JINKINS: In the Name of God Amen Being weak in body but in sound mind and memory I make and constitute this my last will and testament in manner and form following to wit: first I give my soul to God that gave it. second I desire that all my just and lawfull debts be paid. Thirdly I desire that all my estate be valued by Thomas Johnson (unreadable word) and George Crosswhite and my wife Mary to have one third of the same in any part of the property she may choose and fourthly the other two thirds to be equally divided between my three sons viz Jesse, Larkin, and Rowland Jinkins when they shall come of age. Fifthly I desire that my eldest son Jesse be bound to the blacksmith trade. Sixtly I desire my second son Larkin be bound to the hatters trade. Seventhly I desire my third son have his choice to be bound either to the joiners or waggonmakers trade. Eighthly I desire my wife shall keep my third son till he may be of age sufficient to choose which trade he will have. Ninthly I desire to make and constitute my friends Hugh Jinkins and Joseph Tompkins my Executors to this my last will and testament. Signed and sealed in the presents of us. September the 7th 1806. AttestWilliam Jinkins (Seal) George Crosswhite (unreadable) Fairchild (unreadable) James (unreadable, possibly Wright) Thomas his X mark (unreadable)

I think it is interesting that the date of this Will is dated just one day before the Will of his friend, William Jackson. I can just see these men getting together and deciding it was time to do this. Both said they were weak in body, but William Jackson didn't die until 3 1/2 years later; I don't know when William Jinkins died.
