During the administration of Pres James Monroe he was US Marshal in Pittsburgh and after the end of his appointment he continued for several years completing the cases he had begun.

Franklin, the only child to reach maturity of William Beckford and Hannah Irish, went to medical school in Philadelphia in 1839 and graduated in 1841. He opened his practice in Terra Haute, IN and started a drug store as well with money furnished by his father who was an invisible partner. In 1845 he moved to Covington, IN where he practiced medicine and ran another drug store. His father became involved with Jesse Garretson in several retail stores and through mismanagement and carelessness on both sides, needed money badly. His father prevailed on Franklin to liquidate his practice and drug store to raise money to help him with his pressing debts.

William and Lydia had gone to visit people in Falling Springs, PA and that is where William died in Mar 1850 @77Y.
