William married Anna Mills and had four children. They lived in Freemont, Ohio and he was a trapper and the caretaker of a hunting club. They lived there until they lost their house to arson.

They moved to Catlit, Virginia near Bull Run. William's oldest son Paul, remembers going to the woods to chop down a Christmas tree on a mountain when he was about 5 years old.

In 1946, they moved to Swanton, Ohio and lived on a farm. Barbara remembers that each child had a hoe with a handle cut down to size. One day while William, Paul, Mary and Barbara were hoeing the corn field, Anna was in the house canning, Frank then 18 months old, sat on the kerosene oven door. The stove tipped over, spilling hot water over Frank's feet. All in the field heard Frank screaming, William thought it was the gander that used to pinch Frank and sent the children to check on him. When Barbara came around the right side of the barn, she saw the back of the house on fire and Anna standing there with Frank just screaming. The water had burned both of Frank's feet and covered them with large blisters. Anna's Four Square Church prayed for his healing. Today, Frank has no scars on his feet from the burns.

Paul and Barbara remembered the time that Paul put gasoline in the kerosene lantern. He was on the way to the barn to feed the animals and poured the gasoline by mistake. The lantern caught on fire and Paul poured the two buckets of slop for the pigs on the lantern to put the fire out.

Paul remembers the time his dad, William told him to watch the animals in the barn while he went to town. He says that as soon as his dad left, he went inside the house. A piece of burlap was too near the light bulb, and caught the the barn on fire. Paul says that his dad saw the smoke pouring out of the barn as he was coming back from town. Paul remembers being in big trouble for this incident.

In 1948, They moved to Marion County, FL and lived on a 40 acre farm. While there, William worked at Snyders Chicken Farm and his wife Anna worked for Griggs Diary. Paul remembers the time during a bad storm, when the family mule that was chained up was struck by lightening and died. They left Florida in 1951 and moved to Toledo, Ohio. [Peppard.FBK.FTW]
