Facts and Events
On both William's birth and death certificates the mother is given as Bessie Grant and the father is unknown. The register at Colac cemetery, which was compiled by volunteers, has William C. buried with daughter Margaret. This is actually his aunt, Margaret, second youngest daughter of William and Sarah Grant. She was aged 10 and buried 5 June 1891. The grave was paid for by George Urquhart. It is not known at this stage what the relationship of George to the family was. (Was he the George after whom Elizabeth's eldest son, Robert George, aged 3 at this time, was named?) George also paid for the grave next to the grave of William and Margaret. In it are buried George Urquhart, aged 10 years, and James Urquhart, aged 4 years. These are George's children. All four children died within a month of each other. This seems to have been due an epidemic of diptheria. References
