Jackye Plummer says that he was a Methodist minister with the Texas Conference, but slipped in his faith and ran a tavern in Navarro County, Texas. He returned to the ministry and died as a result of wounds he received in the Civil War where he was a waggoner. Margaret drifted into Limestone County with her daughter and disappeared. In the 1850 Cherokee County, Texas census (family 148), William is listed as a minister. In the 1860 census he was listed as a farmer.
