CHEBOYGAN -- William D. "Bucky" Fish, 78 years old of Cheboygan, passed away at his home on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001. He was born in Cheboygan on July 22, 1923, the son of Lee and Fern (Miller) Fish. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army in Northern Europe, France and Rhineland as a medical technician in a M. A. S. H. Unit from 1943 until 1945. He married Ernestine Hinkley in Cheboygan on Oct. 30,1947. Bucky enjoyed the outdoors. He was an accomplished hunter and fisherman, sharing his skills with family and friends. His patience allowed him to become a great teacher and pass many of those skills on to his grandchildren and loved ones. He was an avid sports fan and often commented on how "girls athletics" have evolved in the past 25 years. He particularly enjoyed girls softball and supported all of the Chief's athletic programs. Bucky was employed all of his life as a carpenter, working in construction with his father and later his brothers. Survivors include his wife, Ernestine; his daughter Sally (Daniel) Eustice and his son David Fish, all of Cheboygan. He also leaves his five grandchildren, Anthony Eustice, Matthew Eustice, Katherine Eustice, Aaron Fish, and Andrea Fish, as well as his great-grandchild Dylan Fish and his sister Eileen Ritter of Northbrook, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Fern Fish; his brothers Leo Fish, Russell Fish, Harold Fish; and his sister, Mary Fenlon. Visitation was held Sunday at the Christian Funeral Home, where the Cheboygan County Veterans held a memorial service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the Rev. Paul Megee officiating. Burial will take place at Pinehill Cemetery. Those considering memorial contributions are asked to remember the Hospice of the Straits or the family.
