from: Berriman, "The Tittabawasee Boomtowns", p. 119; found at the Sagin aw Public Library (Hoyt) in the Eddy Collection. "...Young [William] Dunning remained on his father's farm until he reach ed the age of 15, when he began following the lumbering in the winters, a nd working on the river in the summer. He did this until December 2, 188 0, when he arrived in Hope, and then made it his home. July 3, 1875, he married Miss Lizzie McPeak, the daughter of Richa rd and Margaret (Cane) McPeak. Three children were born of this marriag e: Frankie, May 5, 1876; Cissie, March 18, 1878 and Lydia, Oct. 15, 188 2, being the only one born in Hope township." From a history of Midland County, p. 251: Mr. [Ransom] Dunning Sr., was a native of Connecticut, and died in Mi dland City, November 19, 1880. The Mother was born in Scotland and di ed 6 miles from Saginaw, in Jamestown township, June 16, 1868. Malco lm , John and William are the names of their three sons. ...Dec. 2, 1880, when he arrived in Hope township...Here he has sin ce made his home...and is now living in the oldest log house in Hope towns hip, his father having bought it from Zenas Weaver...Mr. Dunning boug ht 40 acres of land from Mr. Weaver and 60 of James Riggs."
