William Dragoo
William was the son of John Dragoo and Elizabeth Straight. His second wife was Rebecca Matheny.
He was about 12 years old when he was kidnapped in 1786. He was 86 when he died.
BIOGRAPHY: Billy was with his mother at his Uncle's farm on 3 Oct 1786 about 3/4 miles from their home. They went home to get some potatoes & cabbage. They were captured by Indians who also stole horses from his uncle, killing the uncle (Jacob Straight) in the process. His mother was killed the third day out. He was adopted by an Indian named Logan, who was actually another white man. Known in legend as Indian Billy. He married and had childred with an indian maiden. 25 Years later he came home in 1810 and remarried. In 1823, he and his second wife Rebecca Matheny moved to Licking County, OH and lived near Perrytown until his death. He was believed to be only the third man to visit Licking County. While visiting his father for the first time in 20 years in 1808, he heard the gospel, and tried to preach that to the Indians, but gave up and returned to VA to live with his family.
