WALLSEND. The late Mr. William Conn was a highly-esteemed resident of Wallsend for about 20 years, and on his retirement towards the end of last year took his departure from the town to live with his son-in-law, the Rev. R, Winter, who has charge of the Anglican provisional district of Bulladelah. Deceased was a zealous member of Saint Luke's Church, and during the majority of his term of residence was one of the people's warden. He first served as a lay representative to synod when living in Lambton, which was then embraced in the parish, and as such had completed 30 years' office. He was prominent in many deliberations at synod, and fearlessly gave expression to his convictions. As a parochial councillor he had rendered conspicuous service, seldom missing a meeting and playing an important part in affairs for the welfare of the church, He had also performed splendid service as a lay reader, and was a strong advocate of the temperance cause. On the occasion of his departure from Wallsend he was given a valedictory by Saint Luke's parishioners, and also received a presentation from the church people and friends. Deceased is survived by a widow, three daughters (Mrs. R. Winter and Misses E. and I. Conn), and two sons (Messrs. W. G. and C. Conn),
FUNERAL OF THE LATE MR. W. CONN. The funeral of the late Mr. William Conn took place on Saturday afternoon, the interment being in Sandgate Cemetery. The cortege moved from the New- rastle Cathedral where a short service was conduced by Archdeacon Regg, who was assisted by the Rev. Williamson. The archdeacon based a brief reference to the life of the deceased on the words "Who being dead yet speaketch." He said there were some among the congregation who cold speak of his life as a citizen; there were those who could speak of him as an exemplary father and husband; and there were others who could speak of his good example as a member of the church. Reference was also made to the association of deceased with synod, and the archdeacon declared that his utterances ware always received with respect, be- cause it was felt they were the outcome of a solemn conviction. The chief mourners were: Mrs. Winter, Misses Ella and Ida Conn (daughters), Mrs. J. Bell (sister), and Messrs. W. G. and C. H. Conn (sons). The pall-bearers were Messrs, J. L. Fegan, A. Quinn, J. Davis, C. M'Neil, and P. F, Smith., Tha service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. W. F. James and Williamson. Wreaths were sent by the Conn family, Mr. and Mrs. J, Bell, Mr, and Mrs. D. Cameron, Mrs, H, Gray and family, Mr. and Mrs. H. Chapman, Mr. and Mrs. S. Johnson and family, Mr, and Mr. C. A. H. M'Neil, Mrs. J. M'Neil, Mrs. J.
