Note that William had a first cousin also named William (son of Joseph), only a year and a half younger. Be careful distinguishing them. In the 1851 census, this William was living with his father in Tedham, near Allendale, while Joseph's William was lodging in Dodd Top, near Allenheads. By the 1861 census, this William had married Elizabeth and had first daughter Margaret, in Forster Head, near Allendale, while the other William is still in Dodd Top, widowed, with a son Joseph.
