Wearled and worn with the unequal struggle against death, Wm. Carpenter yielded the slender thread of life last Monday evening after several years of intense suffering. He was born in Germantown 57 years ago last February, and spent all his years in this vicinity. His father was the late T.S. Carpenter, and from him he learned the trade of carpenter, which he followed vigorously in the days of his health. Some thirty years ago he married Miss Bert Shank, and to them were born a son and a daughter. The latter, Mrs. Juanita Clark, died a few weeks ago, and this much depressed her invalid father. The son Rufus O. Carpenter, is somewhere in the west. His dutiful wife, his aged mother, and three sisters are left to mourn what seems an untimely loss. He was a kindly gentleman, the soul of good humor, honorable, upright, a good citizen, a firm friend. Farewell, "Pat," those who knew you best loved you most. Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church Wednesday afternoon. The burial in the Lutheran cemetery was under the auspices of Walnut Level lodge of Odd Fellows, of which he was a faithful member many years.
