For the records pertaining to William and Mary I am indebted to Judy Hall who has extensively researched the background of both. There is some uncertainty regarding the family in England as the records are open to interpretation. Judy Hall has however, come to reasonable conclusions that she has found the correct records but no one can state with absolute certainty that the individuals in England have been correctly identfied. The name of the family has been variously spelled: Brewer - Breward or Brewhard and seems to have changed back and forth. The variation is due no doubt to the illiteracy of the day when it would be left to the person recording the name to give their interpretation of what they heard. Accents were possibly stronger and lack of education would have caused people to mispronounce words and names. The family name of Mary and her year of birth are equally uncertain. Did she change her name to avoid orosecution for more serious crimes and change her date of birth to be treated as a child and given a less serious penalty. No one can now say for sure. The data relating to the Brewer/Breward family should therefore be considered in the light of Judy Hall's booklet "Convicts Two. A brief story of William Breward and Mary Ann Breward"
