Facts and Events
William won a lawsuit against Edward Doty for slander in spring 1633, and does not appear on the Plymouth tax list in 1634, and was granted 25 acres at Salem in 1637. The timing fits with the exodus of adherents of Roger Williams. He served on juries in Essex County several times, as well as Salem fenceviewer, Manchester constable, and Manchester selectman. He was one of the original petitioners for the creation of Manchester in 1640.[1] He was not made freeman as a young man, but rather took an oath of fidelity in 1677. His noncupative will of 20 Nov 1682 names wife Jane, oldest son Moses, son Aaron, grandson John Croe, grandchildren Aaron Croe and Abigail Crow, and daughter Mary. William died before he finished dictating the will. References
