Facts and Events
Following is the article that Catherine Anderson Delsindico sent to Sandra Hayes of how Jack died. GUS COUNTS IN JAIL CHARGED WITH KILLING JACK ANDERSON December 29, 1927 Gus Counts of Bismarck is in jail awaiting his preliminary hearing on a charge of murder, having given himself up to Sheriff Fisher after fatally shooting Jack Anderson Sunday afternoon at Count's home 1 1/2 miles north of Bismarck. It appears that Counts and Anderson had been together most of the day and late in the afternoon, with several others, went to Counts home presumably in search of whiskey. Anderson is said to have used profane language in the presence of Counts wife and children and when remonished, Anderson seized a smoothing iron and attempted to strike Counts. At this juncture of the difficulty, Counts grabbed an automatic shot gun and fired at Anderson from a distance of about five feet, the load striking Anderson in the right side and killing him instantly. All in the party had been drinking heavily, we are told, and the killing was the result of drunkenness. Counts and Anderson are said to be brothers-in-law. Counts is about 32 years of age. |
