William Ainscough was born in 1816 and christened on 14th April 1816 at St. Katherine's Church in Blackrod. He was the son of Ralph Ainscough (1782) and Nanny. He married Fanny Holding on 18th February 1838 in Wigan Parish Church. In 1841 he was a coal miner and was living at Red Rock Bridge in Arley. In 1851 he was a miner and was living at Canal Row in Haigh. Sometime around 1855, Fanny Holding died and William married weaver Margaret Waring, the daughter of John Waring, at Hindley Parish Chapel on 6th April 1856. In 1861 he was a coal miner and was living at Farm House in Blackrod. In 1871 he was working as a coalminer and was living in Little Scotland in Blackrod. By 1881, Margaret Waring had died and William was living in Dark Lane, Blackrod. His occupation was given as a collier. He died on 27th March 1884 in Little Scotland, Blackrod, of heart disease and general debility. He was aged 67.
