W. A. C. Speer appears in Capt Glass Co. Fayette Rangers, Ga. on a commission of rations from July 1, 1861 to July 6, 1861; 13th Georgia Infantry, which later became Co. F, in the Confederate Army, also under Sam W. Jones, killed 1862 (History of Fayette County, Georgia 1821-1971, Fayette County Historical Society).

W. A. C. Speer Pvt Co. F. 13 Regt., Ga. on list of Confederate prisoners who died within the Federal lines 6th Corps. Taken prisoner at Sharpsburg (Antietam), Md. Cause of death gun shot wound.
