From Marilyn Morgan List of Pensioners: 31,448 Hopkins, Warren Post-office Algonac loss of limb 24.00 "In the spring of 1863 the regiment was sent to do picket duty along Difficult Creek, in Virginia, thence took part in the Gettysburg campaign...Gen Custer was given command of the brigade...followed Lee to the Potomac...September 14,1863...Culpeper Court House...On the 16th...was severely wounded in the left foot and leg and taken prisoner...leg was amputated...Sept 22...placed in the Libby Prison Hospital...September 29 he was paroled...and put on board the flag-of-truce boat, "City of New York"...taken to Annapolis and placed in the Naval School Hospital...transferred to St. Mary's Hospital at Detroit..discharged April 4, 1864."
