1831 - Walter's baptism appears to be incorrectly recorded in the North Lopham register as the son of Robert & Sarah (late Betts). Several factors support this: 1: Robert & Sarah (late Betts) baptised another child in the same year. 2: Walter's father's occupation is recorded as "Miller", consistent with it being this couple, not the other. Living in Kenninghall. 3: Walter is found in the household of this couple on 1841 census, and there is no Walter with Robert & Sarah (late Betts).

1841 - With parents on the Green, North Lopham. Aged 10.

1851 - Lodging with John Drake, seed merchant, on the Green, North Lopham. Seed merchant.

1881 - Unmarried dealer. Living as a lodger (head) of single household at the Cutter Inn, Ely (Holy Trinity & St Mary). Place of birth recorded as North Lopham. Widowed mother living in same parish in Ely.

1891 - Lodging at the Royal Oak, Ely (Holy Trinity). Pig dealer, born North Lopham.
