Fort Wayne, Indiana Sentinel 27 February 1909: "The Great Boston Awakening: The story of a remarkable revival campaign under the leadership of Dr. Chapman and Mr. Alexander - the whole city aroused - Revival fires lighted through New England ...On the very last day of the campaign one of the most interesting converts of the revival made a public declaration of his allegiance to Jesus Christ, He was Mayor Walter C. Wardwell, of the city of Cambridge, which has a population of 100,000 and in which Harvard university is located. He made the profession of faith at a meeting conducted by Rev. Henry W. Stough at the First Baptist church. No one can estimate the influence this will have upon the students of Harvard university, where Dr. Chapman and Mr. Alexander conducted an evangelistic service, which, it is said, was the fourth ever held in the history of the university."

"Cambridge Mayorality Wardwell Defeated by Brooks in the Unplurality City Cambridge, Mass., March 10.- Mayor Walter C. Wardwell, who has been the chief executive of this city for the past two years, and who was a candidate for re-election on the Non-Partisan and Independence League tickets, was defeated in the municipal election by William F. Brooks, the Democratic nominee. Brooks had 409 votes to spare; the total vote being: Brooks, 6571, Wardwell, 6162, Eastman, Socialist, 115." -Fitchburg Daily Sentinel 10 March 1909
