Alice Rosa Proffitt, neice of Waighstil Proffitt wrote the following about her uncle: " Uncle Waights attended Mar Hill College in NC. Lived on a farm with his mother in Hart County, Georgia. He fought in the Civil War. My sister, Grace, had a lovely picture of him in Confederate uniform. He was handsome, he wanted to be a doctor. Hi is buried in Sardis Church outside of Hartwell, next to his mother." Alice was about ten years old when her uncle Waights died, she knew & remembered him.
