"my said husband died on the 23 day of December 1907, at the residence of Wade H. Smalling, Jr. near Daisy, Pike County, Arkansas in Self Creek Township." James T. Gregory (July 8, 1909) "well acquainted with the late Wade H. Smalling Sr., deceased, and his various surroundings prior to, during and subsequent to the late civil war of 1861 to 1865, and up to the date of his death, December 23, 1907 ... and well acquainted with his surviving widow M.F. Smalling ... and have known her the last past 20 years." Jacob Johnson aged 65 years a citizen-resident of ... Emerson, Columbia County, Arkansas ... "well acquainted with Wade H. Smalling Sr. and his various surroundings while then a resident of Caldwell Parish, State of Louisiana, prior to, during and subsequent to the late civil war, 1861 to 1865 ..." Wade H. Smalling served in Captain Savanah's Company, Louisiana Cavalry.

THE GEMS Pike County Arkansas Pike County Archives and History Society PO Box 875 Murfreesboro Arkansas 71958 Vol XIII No 2 Spring 2002 Gg-grandfather: Wade Hampton Smalling (4 Nov 1818--23 Dec 1907), buried Palestine Cemetery, Kirby, Pike Co, AR. His third wife Mary "Polly" Berry is buried next to him at Palestine Cemetery. His second wife Rebecca "Becky" - unknown last name, I think died in about 1880 in Pike Co. Also two of his sons from his second wife are buried in Palestine Cemetery. His first wife, Catherine May Waggoner my gg-grandmother, died in 1860 in Caldwell Parish, LA.
