EAST DUBUQUE, Ill. - Virginia R. Sullivan, 51, of 5150 Dunn Road, East Dubuque, formerly of Scales Mound, died at 3:40 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at ManorCare Health Services, Dubuque. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Nativity BVM Catholic Church, Menominee, with the Rev. Ted Lewandowski and the Rev. Phillip Kruse officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, where there will be a parish scripture service at 5 p.m. The members of St. Ann's Society will recite the rosary at 3:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Sullivan was a homemaker and legal secretary for Nack, Richardson & Kurt Attorneys of Galena. She was born on Aug. 13, 1952, in Cuba City, Wis., daughter of Vernon and Clara (Tobin) Saam. She married Jerry J. "Jerry Joe" Sullivan on Sept. 23, 1978, at St. John the Evangelist Church, Hanover; he preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 1998. She was a member of Nativity BVM Parish and its St. Ann Society. Surviving are two daughters, Colleen Audrey Sullivan and Maureen Ann Sullivan, and a son, Jeremiah Paul Sullivan, all at home; her father and stepmother, Vernon and Betty Saam, of Galena; three brothers, Donald (Ruth) Saam, of Yorkville, Richard (Mary Alice) Saam, of Corpus Christi, Texas, and John (Margaret) Saam, of Galena; two nieces and a nephew, Christopher Saam, Kim Fredres and Kelli Oelyn; a stepsister, Mary (Joe) Roth, of Scales Mound; a stepbrother, Donnie Distler, of Galena; her good friends, Tina Kehl and P.J. Anglin, of East Dubuque; two sisters-in-law, Jackie (Jerry) Crawford, of Dubuque, and Luanne (friend, Art Pieper) Sullivan, of Hanover; and a brother-in-law, Tommy (Geri) Sullivan, of Omaha, Neb. She also was preceded in death by her mother, Clara Saam, in August 1972. In lieu of flowers, a Virginia R. Sullivan Memorial Fund has been established. The Sullivan family appreciates the love and kindness of everyone during Virginia's illness, with special thanks to Dr. Kirk Payne and the Medical Associates staff, 3-West staff at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque and ManorCare staff for their excellent care.
