Inheritance: In her father, Conley Jones' will it reads: "6th I give and devise to my daughter Viola West all that portion of the south half of the north west quarter of sec. no. thirty three (33) lying east of the Knoxville and Maquon Wagon Road in Town No. ten (10) north of Range No. 3 East in Knox County Illinois together with all the appurtenances thereinto belonging or in anywise appertaining to have and to hold the said premises to the said Viola West her heirs and assigns forever - This is conditioned however that my said daughter shall pay to my son Charles Jones the sum of five hundred dollars which may be paid in five equal annual payments but none of which shall be deferred longer than five years after my death." On Jan 2, 1885, Viola signed a receipt for $200.00. It reads, Received of Wm Swigart, Executor of the Estate of Conley Jones, deceased, the sum of Two hundred Dollars, Part of the heirs part against said Estate. 1930 CENSUS, IL, Knox, Galesburg Twp, Galesburg City second ward, ED 48-15, sheet 8B, April 11, 1930: West, Viola, head, owns home valued at $5,000., owns a radio, f,w, age 74, widowed, married at 18, born IL, parents born PA (sic), no occupation. On N. Cherry St., no. 270. In 1942, on her 86th birthday, she "observed her eighty-sixth birthday anniversary today at her home at 270 North Cherry street. Four of her five daughters were with her on this occasion and included Mrs. Walter Prall, Mrs. T. R. Hopkins and Mrs. O. O. McLeish, Galesburg, and Mrs. E.J. Norton of Cincinnati, O. Mrs. West received a number of gifts, flowers and cards from her wide circle of friends and relatives." This is from a newspaper clipping which has no identification. from Tim Hopkins comes info that she died on 05 Aug instead of 06 Aug.[ In the 'REPORT OF RECEIPTS AND DISBURSEMENTS' of the administrator of Viola's estate, July, 1943, Alberta Prall, Mary Hopkins, Winifred Wick, Violet Norton, and Phyllis McLeish, heirs and only heirs at law receive $1, 748.53 each.
