From Houston Tracy, Jr.: "Valentine A. LANG b ca 1824 in FL or GA (census shows both at various times) md 1st an unknown named woman, supposedly in FL and died during childbirth. The child is said to have survived, but the woman's parents took it and ordered Valentine to go away. He traveled to LA, where he is to have married ca 1848 a woman known only as Mary A. b ca 1830 MS. They had possibly 4 children, before her premature death. A Mary C. LANG, aged 3 months is shown on the 1850 Mortality Schedule for Panola Co., TX. The family appears on the 1850 Census in Angelina Co., TX. I do not find them in 1860, but Valentine was shown as a Constable in 1869 for Montgomery Co., TX and the family appears there on the 1870 Census. Known Children: Ann Elizabeth b 1850 TX md Jackson YOUNG; William Austin b 1851 in LA md 1st Mary Elizabeth HAMPTON 1870, md 2nd Martha E. SMITH 1889; Lafayette Alexander "Fayte" md Sarah Elizabeth RUSS. Valentine remarried 1872 to Frances SIMMONS b ca 1840 MS, who was the widow of a McKIM. Valentine and Frances had only two children: Elizabeth Armendy LANG b 1877 who md William Absalom WIGGINS and had 13 children, before their divorce in 1919; James Wesley LANG b 1879 who married 1st Mary Elizabeth MERCER, who his 7 children and 2nd Lula Belle McDANIEL, a marriage of convenience, which ended in divorce."
