    Note:

Ann Brownfield was likely the third child of Robert and Jane Stewart Brownfield, born around 1743-1744 in Pennsylvania. She was married to Samuel Craig who died as a soldier in the American Revolution. It is not known how many children they had. In January 1874, James Hope of Eudora, Mississippi, wrote that his maternal grandmother was Ann Brownfield and that her husband, Samuel Craig, was killed at the Battle of Hanging Rock near Camden, South Carolina. Later that year, in another letter, Mr. Hope told the story of an old Mr. Henry Ray who had once related to him a most unusual story about Samuel Craig. Ray was with Craig at the Battle of Hanging Rock and stated that on the morning of the battle Samuel Craig was one of the last to wake up. When he arose, Craig related to Ray that he had just had a dream in which he (Samuel) and his brother, James, were killed in the battle in which they were about to enter and that his brother, Robert Craig, was wounded. Shortly after that, just as the battle was beginning, Henry Ray witnessed the death of Samuel Craig. He later learned that James Craig had also been killed and that their brother, Robert, wounded. The date of that battle was August 6,1780. The Craigs lived near Kings Mountain, South Carolina, a short distance from Mecklenburg County, NC. Ann Brownfield Craig died around 1814 in Lincoln County, NC, and was likely staying with daughter, Mollie Robinson, at the time.
