Facts and Events
Allegedly Hattie was the daughter of William Nickerson and Ann Busby. Savage does not name her. The Great Migration does not name her at all, leading me to believe that this information has not been proven. Here is citation for article re: Hattie "The Fictional Hattie (Nickerson) Lord," The Connecticut Nutmegger Volume 32, Number 2 (September 1999): 189-192. Brief summary: William Lord came to America with parents (Thomas and Dorothy) in 1635 at age 12. He was one of the first settlers of Saybrook where he d. 17 May 1678. The name of his first wife is not on record, he m. (2) abt. Apr 1664 Lydia (Buckland) Brown, widow of John, d/o William. Several children by both. The name of the first wife being Hattie Nickerson is traced to article in Boston Evening Transcript, 5 Nov 1823. Subsequently, this story has been embellished with to the point that Hattie is inserted into William Nickerson's family, despite various objections similar to what is on the Talk page. No speculation is presented on what the name of the first wife is, nor is there any proof that it isn't Hattie Nickerson, but the article believes that the name Hattie Nickerson "appears to be pure fiction", but even if accurate, she does not belong to the Chatham Nickersons.
