Timothy Carney called Tade, was born 7 January 1848 in Ireland and his wife was Mary Etheridge, born 28 October 1852 in Georgia. His father came from Ireland to the United States when he was about three. He and his mother may have followed a bit later. I have not yet found a record of their voyage.

Timothy Carney and Mary Etheridge were married January 27, 1874 on the same day as his sister Mary Carney and her brother Adoniram Etheridge. The family home was in Spring Place, Murray County, Georgia. The present address of the Carney home place is 1313 Highway 52,Chatsworth, GA 30705-6690, also called Woody Glenn highway

From the Index of compiled services records of Confederate soldiers who served in Georgia we learn that Carney, T was listed in company A, 39th Regiment, Infantry private that he enlisted on April 5, 1864 in Dalton, Georgia.

The 1900 census from Murray County Georgia gives us information about the family only a few years after the photo I have was taken. It lists Timothy Carney, age 52; his wife Mary, age 49; daughter Agnes M (Mary Agnes in our records but perhaps she was Agnes Mary) 23; John F. 17; Burtie M.(Bertha Mae) 15; Thomas A. 14; Biddie L, 12; William H, 10, Joel T., 8; and Carl 5. Census records have been transcribed and there are errors. The only one missing in the census who was in our photograph was Margaret Ellen. Perhaps she was married or living away from home.

Going back in time to the 1870 census, we see 22 year old Timothy Carney, paterfamilias to be, already living in Murray County Georgia with his father Andrew Carney (1818-about December 1886 or January 1887), age 50 and his mother Margaret. Shea, (1826 in Ireland- June 1885) age 43. Timothy had three siblings, Mary, Johannah and Jeremiah.

Timothy is pictured in the county courthouse and on page 378 of the book Murray County Heritage going in 1912 with a delegation of businessmen going to request the county seat be moved to Chatsworth . He had a general store on First Avenue near the corner of Fort Street in Chatsworth (p. 371 Murray County Heritage). --JMG 08:47, 3 December 2011 (EST)
