Professional golfer. Was Tennessee state amateur champion in 1936. Qualified for the United States Open in 1939 with the lowest-qualifying score ever (beating Bobby Jones' record), but did not survive past the first round of the actual competition. Grew up next to the Whittle Springs golf course at 1736 Golf Street (later renamed Tecoma Drive) in Knoxville, where he learned to golf. Later, as an adult, became golf pro of that same course. During his life, was also golf pro at in Tate Springs, TN, Stearns, KY, Kingsport, TN, and Knoxville, TN. May have committed suicide.
