... Thomas and Edmund Tunstall were the sons of Thomas Tunstall, an early clerk of Halifax County who in 1768 purchased lands on Stinking River in eastern Pittsylvania and established his home there. The will of Thomas Tunstall, Sr., was probated at Pittsylvania Court House in which he named sons Thomas, Edmund, William and daughter Rebecca. He had probably already provided for daughter Elizabeth.
Thomas Tunstall, Jr., married Mildred Todd, sister of William and Richard Todd; he represented the county in the Legislature for the session of 1791, 92, 93. In 1794 he removed to Lincoln County, Ky.
Edmund Tunstall married a daughter of his kinsman William Tunstall, the clerk. In 1796 Mrs. Elizabeth Tunstall of Bertie, North Carolina, made a gift of two slaves to her grand daughter, Elizabeth Tunstall, daughter of Edmond Tunstall of Pittsylvania.
