"… we are then forced to state that the son Thomas must have been either the oldest child or the youngest child. From the will, the inventory and the later deed of sale by the three daughters, we conclude that Thomas was not competent to care for himself. In the will of the immigrant the daughters are clearly stated to be minors, but Thomas is not. If Thomas is assumed to the the oldest child, he would have been about twenty-one years old at the time of the will, based on the estimated dates of birth of the daughters, whereas, if he were the youngest child, he would only be about thirteen years old at the time of the will. We conclude, therefore, that he was the oldest, although the alternative placement remains possible.[1] References
