1800 -- A Thomas Reddick appears in the U.S. federal census of 1800 in Chesterfield County, S.C. - living near Shadrach Reddick (Shadrick Riddick, etc.). Shadrach had lived in both Burke and Warren Counties, GA. during the 1780s & '90s. Shadrach was a tax defaulter in Burke County. Perhaps this Thomas was a relative of Shadrach, maybe a brother or other relative - since they were living so near to one another. Both Shadrach & Thomas are in the same adult male age bracket (ages 26 to 45, I believe). While Shadrach had three sons and four daughters (apparently), Thomas had four sons and three daughters. Could it be possible that the two older sons of Thomas might have been the two individuals named Thomas and James 'Riddick' who were present in Lincoln Co., GA. prior to 1808? That's just a notion of who -might- have been who amongst all of these fellows, with a recollection that some of us have had some reason to think that Shadrack really was a Riddick, rather than a Reddick; 1808 -- A Thomas and a James 'Riddick' are tax defaulters in Lincoln County, GA. This is not far from Warren County (approximately 10 miles separate the two counties at present; earlier they were adjacent or nearly so); 1810 -- A Thomas and a James Reddick are married in a double ceremony to Elizabeth and Joanne Carroll (various surname spellings), respectively - in Abbeville District, S.C., on April 23, 1810 by the Reverend Moses Waddell, who then resided in Willington, S.C., Abbeville District (which lies immediately across the Savannah River from portions of Lincoln County, GA). 1810-- Thomas Reddick joins the military in Abbeville South Carolina 1820 -- In the federal census for Abbeville District, S.C. there were two "Redick" households. The -recorded- heads of those two households were "Annie" and Elizabeth. These two given names are greatly suggestive of the two Carroll women (Joanne & Elizabeth) who married the two Reddick men in 1810 in Abbeville District. Several of the neighboring (closely adjacent) households were comprised of Carrols. This is highly suggestive of these folks having been the kin of those women, if they were the two Carroll sisters. 'Annie' was enumerated as living alone. Perhaps she was widowed by the death of James Reddick. By the time of the 1830 census there were no Redick or Reddick individuals still resident in Abbeville District. Thanks to Dale Reddick for the above time line. Image Gallery
