THOMAS OWEN lived in Wayles.

The father of Harry Thomas Owen, died at Llunllo, in the Parish of Machynlleth in 1672. He served as Mayor of Machynlleth in 1622, later as Magistrate, and like his father was a well-to-do landholder around Machynlleth. And here the educational tradition enters the scene. Strangely enough, he was an alumnus of Oxford. In the Registrum Universitatis Oxoniensis we read that Richard Owen, aged twenty, and Thomas Owen, aged eighteen, both of the county gentry of Montgomeryshire, matriculated at Jesus College, Oxford, on May 3, 1616. Jesus College was a Cambrian Establishment, that is and was a college founded for Welsh students in 1571 and was the first college founded at Oxford in Post-Reformation times. This would place Thomas Owen's birth about the year 1598. He married Joyce Pughe.
