THE PROSECUTIONS AT MILTOWN MALBY.

At Miltown Malbay on Thursday twenty six respected publicans and others were prosecuted for conspiracy not to supply goods to the police on the 4th. Inst. On the bench were Mr. Cecil Roche, RM; Mister Mercer RM; Colonel Turner, Captain Walsh, and Colonel Evanston. The defendants’ names are – John Clancy, Patrick Bourke, Thomas O’Brien, Daniel McMahon, Michael McDonagh, Patrick Murphy, Thos Moroney, John Sexton, Michael Tobin, Patrick McMahon, Jas Meade, Michael Vaughan, Michael Bourke, Andrew Clancy, John Lynch, John O’Brien, George McDonagh, Thomas Darcy, Edmond Roche, Jas Donnellan, Thady Donnellan, Patrick Kelly, Thos Crehan, W. Honan, Michael O’Loughlin, and Margaret Murtagh.

The Miltown Malbay Prisoners – Extraordinary Demonstration – An extraordinary demonstration on behalf of the eleven prisoners sentenced to a month’s imprisonment under the Coercion Act tool place at Miltown Malbay on Wednesday. Two hundred and sixty carts of turf and a similar number of cart loads of potatoes were sent to the families of the prisoners from the surrounding parishes. The procession was headed by bands and banners. Five or six thousand persons gathered to give assistance and 100 tons of potatoes were pitted. When the bands were passing through the square afterwards, the police were ordered to draw their batons and the head constable called on the crowd to disperse. Through the influence of the Catholic clergyman the people dispersed quietly.
