Facts and Events
On 1 Sep 1885, he gave permission for his stepdaughter to marry:
- I, Thomas Johns, of Monroe Co., Iowa, do solemly swear that my daughter, Ida M. Johns, for the marriage of whom license is applied for, is of the age of 17 & upward, of sound mind and unmarried, and I hereby consent that license may issue for her marriage to Wilbur D. Smith.
- Thomas [his mark] Johns
- Note: Ida apparently was informally "adopted" by her stepfather -- a common occurence in this complex family. On the death cert. of Mrs. Della Silvers (Russell County, Kansas, 1952), her parents are listed as "John S. Johns" & "Lizzie Sapp."
