'On Sep. 22, 1739, Thomas received a patent for 64 acres on the southside of Stony Creek adjoining James Mize, and on Oct. 1, 1747, hereceived a patent for 153 acres on the west side of Stony Creek adjoininghis own land and that of James Mize and Francis Wray. On Nov. 6, 1752, he and Rebecca gave their son-in-law, Benjamin Gist, 100 acres of their land; on Mar. 2, 1756, Benjamin and Mary Gist sold the land back to Jarrett for 35 pounds. On May 5, 1761, he inventoried the property of Henry Bailey and in 1782 he paid taxes on one slave, 3 horses, and 23 cows. He gave the 100 acres to his son, Thomas, his daughter, Nancy Wright, and his sons-in-law, John Wright, Joseph Wright, John Wray, and Drury Allen. On Feb. 9, 1790, the others sold their shares to Joseph Wright for 200 pounds. Thomas paid taxes on the remaining 117 acres until his death in 1789; the heirs sold the land to Luke Taylor on Nov. 17,1792 for 60 pounds. (From Gist and Jarrett of Southside Virginia, by David B.
