The Patriarch

Thomas is as far back as I have been able (to date) to trace the family.

According to the 1851 Census [[1]], Thomas was visiting his son John and his family who lived in Whitechapel[2], which is in the East End of London, England.

Thomas's birthplace is listed as Epping, Essex, and his age is 70 (therefore, his date of birth would be about 1781).

In both the 1851 census and the 1838 marriage certificate for his son John to Hannah Pickering, Thomas's occupation is that of a carpenter.

Speculation

The information above is all that I can currently document for certain about Thomas Hampton. However, I found some documents that may or not be Thomas Hampton.

I searched for an 1841 Census document for Thomas Hampton, born about 1781 in Essex County -- and I found this [[3]] The Thomas Hampton listed is age 60, which is correct, but his occupation is "Ag Lab", not carpenter.

On FamilySearch, I found baptismal information [4]] that may be Thomas's son, John. This document lists Theydon Bois, Essex [5] , as the place where John was christened in 1821. "Ann" is listed as John's mother. I searched for a marriage certificate for a Thomas Hampton and Ann, married about 1821 in/near Theydon Bois, Essex county, and I found this [[6]]

It may be that Thomas Hampton married Ann Sessions in Theydon Bois, Essex, in 1810.

The interesting (and intriguing) thing is that Thomas's granddaughter, Emily Emma Hampton, married Robert Sessions from Farnborough, Kent.[[7]] His father, Robert Sr., was the postmaster and proprietor of the New Inn in Farnborough from at least 1826 until his death in 1863. Robert Sessions Sr was born in Theydon!!! I haven't found a verified connection between Ann Sessions and Robert Sessions Sr. (yet).
