(Check newspaper artile: "Thomas Gant (sic) in the Owen Leader, March 26, 1919. Thomas Gantz was born near Carrolton, Ohio on September 10th, 1840. When a young man he moved from Ohio to Brazil, Indiana thence to Bowling Green and on to Patricksburg. Here he married Mary Elizabeth Magill on September 23, 1866. Mary Elizabeth died later in Freedom, Indiana on July 12, 1858. Thomas and wives (sic) reared eleven children over the years in various locations.

"His active life was spent in the practice of medicine in Owen County before the days of good roads and automobiles. His life was one of considerable hardship, but he seemed to always be moved by a genuaine wish to five aid and confort to the suffering.

"He maintained a lively interest in the scientific side of the medical profession until the last."

Dr. Gantz Passes Away (Thur., 27 Mar 1919 - Owen Co. Democrat) Dr. Thomas Gantz, 78 years old, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. O. E. Cassady, Sunday morning. Dr. Gantz was a pioneer physician of Owen county and practiced medicine at Freedom many years and later came to Spencer. His death was due to the infirmities of old age. The funeral was held at the residence Wednesday and the remains were taken to Farmers for the interment. He is survivied by the following sons and daughters, M.V. Gantz, of Elgin, Ill., Frank Gants of Bicknett, C.A. Gantz of mobile, Mrs. O.E. Cassady, of Spencer, Mrs. C. H. Haxton of Black hawk, INd., Mrs. Clara Ault of Rockville, Mrs. Nettie Brenton and Mrs. L.D. LIght of Indianapolis.

Dr. Gantz is listed in the 1881 Owen Co. IN Board of Health list of practicing doctors.

According to Caroline Girkin Bleuer, Thomas delivered all grandchildren at home; consequently some didn't have birth certificates until they were older.
