Thomas Amis Fanning is the brother of William Fanning, listed as the father of Bryan Fanning in the "other" Fanning line. That making Thomas' father, Edmund, b. 1620 in Grotfree, County Tipperary, Ireland. There IS a problem, however. Those listing William as the father of Bryan(t) also show Thomas Amis, son of Edmund, as being born in 1655, not 1636. Rather difficult to have a son at age 5!!! So, this line is still a mystery, at least to me, and likely to many others. Still, Edmund is the "anchor" as it were, for the ancestry of David Fanning. ...And there's more!!!! On EDMUND, father of William and Thomas (whenever he was born, as one source lists a Thomas b. 1641 and another in 1655 - which usually indicates the first dying young). He came to America about 1653, settling in New London, Connecticutt.By 1655 he was living on Fisher's Island. He returned to New London in 1662. He moved to Stonington about 1665. He and his sons Edmund, Jr. and Thomas fought in King Phillip's War in1675-1676.

bd also given as about 1648 in Fishers Island, Suffolk Co., New York. Might have been anyounger brother that died young...
