Adopted by uncle Joel Doty, in 1849 to Montpelier, VT, then Northfield, VT, then to Potsdam. License to preach in Methodist Episcopal Church 19 Feb 1859, deacon 27 Apr 1862, elder 17 Apr 1864, resigned autumn 1866 for health reasons. Moved 1868 to Cleveland, OH, later to Canton, OH, where he was pastor of Wesleyan Methodist Church. In 1886 returned to Cleveland.
