Thomas Cunningham apparently came to Pennsylvania with his brother Andrew in 1737. He later settled on Cub Creek in Brunswick County, now Charlotte County, Virginia. He purchased six hundred and eighty-five acres of land there.

In the Name of our Eternal and Almighty God who formed the universe by the Word of His Power and governs it by the enduring dictates of His Wisdom I Thomas Cunningham of Brunswick County in Virginia being weake in Body yet being sound of mind and Memory for which I have the divine goodness however not knowing how soone my change may now I ordain and declaire this to be my last will and testament in the first place I most humbly asine mine Imortal Spirit into the hands of my most Merciful Creator beseeching him to assist it into the Number of his Eleit through the Meritts of Jesus Christ than as to my perishing Body I intreat that it may be buried in Desant maner I most earnestly do intend my Widow and Fatherless children to the Mercifull presinse of Almighty God to protect and suport them than as for the small Estate with which it hath pleased God to bless me with I Dispose thereof to my two sons to to wit. Thomas and John Cunningham to be equaley devided betwixt the with my waggon and all my household and whatever blong to my plantation only asuring to my daughter Mary Cunningham one horse and saddel to the value of Twelf pound Corency with out with out beding of chost and what else they cane asist her to as their cirkumstances will alow them as also reserving for my beloved wife Darkus Cunningham to live out the plantation during hir Natural Life and to posess and Enjoy what may be reasonable att the Election of my Trusty and well beloved friend John Caldwell and William Cunningham whome I apoint my Executor overseers and my son Thomas to be my administrator and that care may be taken to pay all my just Debts ordaining this to be my last Will and Testament as witnesse my hand this Tenth Day of September in the Year of our Lord 1745.

Before signing it is my will that my three children that live in Pennsylvania having received theire shew are merige poesore allredey each of them heane one shilling Sterling to witt. James Cunningham one shilling Sterling as allso Anne Cunningham allso Willson and asslo Margaratt Cunningham have allis We cey each of them one shilling Sterling as Wittness my hand this tenth Day of September in the Year of our Lord 1745. At a Court held for Lunenburg County the 7th Day April 1752. The within last Will and Testament of Thomas Cunningham Deceased was exhibited in Court and proved by the Oath of William Cunningham one of the witnesses thereto and Ordered to be recorded and on the Motion of the said William Cunningham who having taken the Oath of an Executor and with James & Thomas Daugherty his Sureties entered into Bond and acknowledged the same Certificate was granted him for obtaining a probate of the said Will.
