    Our family tradition includes the story of merchant Thomas Blackburn, an Englishman living in Lisbon. He lost his business in the Great Lisbon Earthquake of November 1, 1755. He and his daughter Elizabeth emigrated to America, probably South Carolina (they may have had other family members with them). We were always told that Elizabeth Blackburn was born in Lisbon. Now I have found what appears to be proof, Church records of the British Factory Chaplaincy in Lisbon, 1721-1807 - FamilyHistoryLibrary INTL Film 477648 that shows Blackburn baptisms:
