There was a Francis Barker in Withern, Lincolnshire, c1806-40, a brewer and landlord of the Red Lion Inn for many years [c1805 he had married the widow of the previous publican]. I think he had died by 1840.

There was a Barker family in Sunfield, Eaton, MI. GRAND LEDGE AREA FAMILY HISTORIES DECENDANTS OF JOSEPH BARKER born Sep 21, 1802 in Lancaster England & died Dec 21, 1879. He married Sumit Cowles 1822 in Seneco, NY, coming to USA 1816 . There would appear to be no connection, except one of our Barker descendants went to Sunfield from Ionia County. Also, William R. Barker, who cannot be found yet on the 1880 census, was somewhere within reach of Bloomingdale, Van Buren County in 1885. Was Sunfield a possible location?

There was a Francis Barker in Berien County, MI in the late 1820's.

The 1850 St. Joseph Co MI census shows several Barkers in Mottville Township that came from England. John, Thomas, Benjamin and James Barker were there in 1845 (but no Kings).

These are all the Barkers listed as married in Washtenaw County. Some, of course, have been identified as our family - they are marked with stars. The others? We will see.

Grove Barker, who was in Washtenaw County in 1831-1832, is very interesting. His land sale record in Washtenaw County (in Hixon Twp which became Bridgewater Twp, perhaps Manchester) says he was living in Livingston Co, New York in 1830 (census Grove and his wife in York, Livingston, NY p 52). He was in Lewis Co, NY in 1810, with 3 males and 3 females in the family (census image saved.) In 1820, he seems to be in York, Genessee, NY (census image saved) Earlier he was probably in Massachusetts (get 1800 census image).
