Sybil was a pianist and a singer. She was a soloist at the Queen's Hall in London England in 1933. She gave birth to her only child, David in 1936. The child was born out of wedlock. The father named on the birth certificate was Keith Savory Kimber. By 1938 she was living with her parents, Frank and Annie Malins at 48 Hook Rise, Tolworth Surbiton Surrey. She met James Edward Allan, a Sergeant in the Canadian Army shortly after he arrived in Britain with the 1st Canadian Division in 1939. They married in 1941. Sybil, her parents and her son lived through the Blitz and then through the Buzz Bombs at Hook Rise. There were frequent visits from her brothers, Wally and Reg and their families. Wally, his wife and children lived in New Malden. Reg and his wife Betty lived in Streatham Hill. The remaining brother Arthur had been killed in the First World War. Sybil lost her mother in 1946 shortly after the war ended in Europe. Her husband, Jim had already been sent back to Canada. In May 1946, Sybil was a war bride sailing with her son from Southhampton to Halifax Nova Scotia on the Queen Mary. Following that journey was a train trip across the breadth of Canada. She took up residence in Victoria BC with husband and son. Jim adopted David in 1956. University educated, David was a teacher and a school principal in Victoria for nearly 40 years. Jim was disabled from his war experiences and pensioned. He died in 1970 after an emergency heart operation. Sybil lived to the late Spring of 1989 when she died of heart failure at the age of 87
