Facts and Events
An article on Susannah was published in The News-Sun as follows: "SUSAN LOY - Susan Loy, second wife of Nicholas Ickes, was the daughter of Michael Loy and Margaret Lambert. She was born in June, 1782. Michael was a native of Berks CO and signed the Oath of Allegiance. After the Revolution he moved to Perry CO and founded the town of Loysville, where he was a man of prominence in the community. Susan Loy became the wife of Jacob Bernheisel, who was killed in a fall from his horse which occurred early in their marital career. In 1797 she became the wife of Nicholas Ickes, a Revolutionary soldier. She was the mother of the following children: Margaret, wife of John Rice; Magdalena, wife of George Rice, II; Michael, who married Sarah Rice; Jacob, who married Jane Elliott Baker, who was my grandfather; John Loy, who married Mary Jane Strode; Susannah, wife of Samuel Heim; Esther, wife of George Wollett; George Loy, married Catharine Jane Shuman; Nicholas, married Ann Mulligan; Mary A., wife of Henry Smith; Sarah, wife of Johnson Sarvis; Ellen, wife of David Zimmerman; Sophia, wife of Levi Weibley, buried here." 27 Oct 2004 22:49:45 Conflict as per John T. Hammond! It is more likely that the number of years before her death noted by the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetary is incorrect because of two things, it makes her date of birth the same as her sister and she would have been married when she was 2 years old. I feel that she should have been born at least 84 years 3 months before her death on 9 Sep 1846. This would make her closer to Nicholas' age. 23 Jan 2003 21:02:06 |
