There is a problem in the records that doesn't make sense. The 1870 census lists Susan with surname Burke which indicates that she and Moses were married by that time, but the 1880 census shows a "stepdaughter" Susan Manigault born in 1873, which suggests that Susan and Moses were not married in 1873. It could be that Susan's surname is wrong in the 1870 census or that Susan Manigault is actually a foster or adopted daughter.
