Notes below provided by Marda Godsey: James William Jackson's son Strother Bird Jackson: An article published in "Dayton and Montgomery County Resources and People," Vol IV, 1932, by author Conover per look up by"carolynjburns@woh.rr.com" 29 Dec 2003: "For almost a decade and ever since his admission to the Ohio bar, the City of Dayton has been the scene of Mr. Jackson's successful professional activities as a lawyer. He enjoys a high professional reputation and a large and important practice and for a number of years has been prominently active in the affairs of one of the best-known fraternal organizations of Dayton. Strother B. Jackson was born at Urbana, March 19, 1890, a son of James W. and Mary (Bird) Jackson. HIS FATHER WAS BORN IN FAUQUIER COUNTY, VIRGINIA AND IS RELATED TO GENERAL STONEWALL JACKSON OF CIVIL WAR FAME AND IS A WELL-KNOWN CONTRACTOR AND BUILDER. Mr. Jackson's mother, now deceased, was a native of Iowa and was related to Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederate States during the Civil War. He received his education in the public grammar and high schools of Delaware County, Ohio, and then read law in the office of Frank Krehbiel, well known Dayton lawyer. Admitted to the Ohio bar in 1921, Mr. Jackson has practiced law ever since then in Dayton, his offices now being located in Suite No. 620, Reibold Building. He is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Dayton Bar Association, as well as the Rosicrucian Brotherhood and Bellepoint Lodge, No. 822, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of which he is a Past Grand. Mr. Jackson is very fond of all forms of outdoor life and sport and especially of motorboating and fishing. In politics he is a supporter of the Democratic party, while his religious affiliations are with the Presbyterian church. Mr. Jackson is not married and makes his home in Dayton."

Among the attorneys the younger generation....Mr. Jackson has been a resident since 1914 but has been engaged in the practice of his profession only since 1921....is one of the...democrats of Montgomery County....was born in May 19 1869 Champaign County, Ohio,near Urgana and is son of James. W. and Mary (Bird) Jackson, both survive as residents of Delaware, Oho....James W. Jackson is a well-known building contractor....Strother B. Jackson...graduated Ostrander High School in that county....went to Marion, Ohio where he secured employment with the Huber Manufacturing Company...subsequently returned to Delaware and became ...with his father in the general contracting...after being thus engaged for several years he came to Dayton and here entered the ...Nation Cash Register Company...was forced to earn his living ...working during the day and studying law at nights in the office of ... Krehbeil of Dayton eventually going...where he entered Judge Frank R. Gusweild well known 'quiz class.' He was admitted to the bar in June, 1921...is president of the X-LLawyers Club of Dayton. He also holds membership in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows....Mr. Jackson is unmarried."

Strother B. Jackson is mentioned in an article in the Marion Star, Marion, Ohio on Monday, July 26, 1937, entitled "AFL Opens State Parley at Dayton." In the article, he is referenced as an attorney, "Mayor Carl. E. -- of Dayton opened the first meeting with an address and welcome and was followed by Robert C. Knee, national president of the the Order of Moose, and Strother B. Jackson, attorney for the Dayton Labor Federation."

Per obituary in the Dayton Daily News on Monday March 16, 1970: "Jackson, Strother B.l, 4550 Riverside Dr. passed away Sunday. An attorney, practiced law for many years in Dayton. Member of the American and Ohio Bar Association. Former chairman Board of Claims, Industrial Commission of Ohio. Also a member Conservancy Lodge, F&AM, Scottish Rite and Antioch Temple. Survived by his wife, Mary E. Funeral Wednesday, 11 A.M. Meyer & Boehmer Funeral Home, 1733 Brown St., Burial Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday 4-9 P.M."

Strother B. Jackson is listed in the 1900 census for Delaware County, Scioto Township, OH with his parents James W. Jackson 45 VA and Mary 42 IA. Strother B. Jackson age 21 OH (VA IA) is listed in the 1910 census with wife Elizabeth 20 OH; married one year; no children. He is living next door to James W. Jackson 54 VA and Mary 52 IA; also their two sons Tennie F. age 27 and James A. 15.

Family Data Collection-Marriages lists Strother Bird Jackson marrying Elizabeth Zimmer on 20 April 1909.
