Facts and Events
"In 1764 Strangeman moved along with his brothers from Virginia to Guilford County, North Carolina, where they all joined the New Garden Meeting of Friends. In 1784 Strangeman bought property in the Northwest corner of the county, lying between Moon's Creek and Reedy Fork. His wife, Jemima (Mills) Stanley, died in 1799. In 1801 he married another Jemima, this one named Jemima (Jones) Mills. She was the widow of the other Jemima's brother. In 1806 Strangeman and his second wife moved to highland County, Ohio, near the town of Leesburg. They became members of the Fairfield Monthly Meeting, which was formed in 1807. After Strangeman's death in 1829, Jemima moved with her youngest son, Strangeman, Jr. to Springfield, Ohio." For Jesse STANLEY, I have the following note: "The 1850 North Carolina census lists Jesse Stanley's occupation as "farmer." The value of his real estate is $400. At that time, the only family members living on the farm are Jesse, his wife, and his unmarried daughter, Rhoda."
