Preston & Co., 1891 Chapter IV - The Profession of Medicine Doctor Stephen A. Wilcox, born in Foster, R.I., in 1808, was a son of Doctor Jeremiah Wilcox. He was educated in the common schools, studied medicine with Doctor Harris of Canterbury, Conn., came to Johnston in 1827 and commenced the practice of medicine there. He was an old school physician, and practiced in Johnston until his death, which occurred February 15th, 1838. He married in 1832, Phebe Knight, daughter of Jacob and Freelove Knight, and they had two sons, Israel K., and Henry M. Wilcox. Doctor Wilcox was a member of the Masonic fraternity, and enjoyed a large practice.
