Stella Wood "Snook" Coble, 91, of 3540 Boy Wood Road, Graham died at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 6:17 p.m.

A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late William Edward "Bill" Coble and the daughter of George H. Wood and Murl Farrell Wood, both deceased. Stella graduated from Alexander Wilson High School and was employed at Shadow Brook Hosiery Mill for a time. Then she and her mother, also an accomplished seamstress, partnered in business and became known for their quality custom draperies and spreads. She retired in 1990. In her youth "Snook†had a reputation in neighborhood sandlot baseball circles as a formidable catcher. She was the only one who could handle hard and fast pitchers. This skill was passed on to her son. Stella was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her biscuits, chocolate pie and coconut cake cannot go without mention as favorites amongst family, friends and her Mt. Hermon community.

She was a member of Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church. Survivors include a son, G. Drew Coble and wife Jane of Myrtle Beach, SC; granddaughter, Kiersten Coble of Burlington; grandson, Bryant Coble and wife Sarah of Charlotte; six great-grandchildren; brother, T. C. "Buddy†Wood and wife Shirley of Burlington; and sister, Mary Anne Montgomery of Seattle, WA. She was preceded in death by a sister, Farrell Terrell.

The funeral service will be conducted at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church on Monday, December 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. by Rev. Tom Miller and Rev. Rick Moser with the family receiving friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Other times the family will receive friends at the residence. Thank you to her loving and dedicated caregiver, Melissa Thompson. Thank you to the Zimmerman family who have been the best neighbors ever. Memorials may be made to Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church, 4178 Mt. Hermon Rock Creek Road, Graham, NC 27253. Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham is in charge of arrangements.
